We regret to inform you that after two years of helping you share your creativity with the world, we
have made the decision to cease Podcast Spot operations beginning on November 30th, 2008.
We’d like to reassure you that we’re not just flipping the switch – our plan is to shut the service
down in phases. Starting December 1st, 2008 you will no longer be able to upload files to Podcast Spot,
but your domain, downloads, and RSS feed will continue to operate through February 2009. During that
time we’ll work with you to redirect users to your new site and feed. Beginning March 1st, 2009 Podcast
Spot will be taken offline completely.
We'll update this page with additional information over time.
Uploading has now been turned off. We will be in touch with customers who have paid beyond today to process refunds.
Reminder: the ability to upload new files to Podcast Spot will be disabled a week from today on Monday, December 1st, 2008. Please let us know if you have redirects you'd like us to setup.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been working with users to migrate to Libsyn and setup appropriate redirects. If you've moved to another host, please email us with the details so we can setup the redirects for you as well.
If you're still looking for a new host, check out Libsyn, Podbean, and PodKive.
We have been in touch with Libsyn.com, and they have graciously offered to help migrate podcasts to
their service. Here’s how it would work:
- You let us know if you want to move to Libsyn.
- We provide Libsyn with all of the necessary information about your podcast.
- Libsyn performs the import on or around October 10th, 2008. As your podcast is imported, you’ll receive an email from Libsyn with your account details.
- We’ll update our servers to redirect to Libsyn accordingly.
- There’s no cost for the migration, and your Libsyn account will be completely free until November 15th, 2008. After that, you can choose to pay or just let your account die.
All you need to do is let us know if you’d like to migrate to Libsyn, and we’ll work with them to make
it happen. Please email us ASAP if you’d like to take advantage of the offer. If you have
any questions for Libsyn, please contact Rob Walch.
Once again, here is the timeline for the shut down:
- October 8th, 2008: Deadline to let us know if you’d like to take advantage of the Libsyn offer.
- November 30th, 2008: Last day that you’ll be able to upload new episodes.
- December 2008: We’ll be sending out stats, DVDs, and other information if requested, etc. We’ll also make any necessary refunds.
- February 28th, 2009: Last day that the website (downloads, RSS feeds) will be operational.
For those of you who would like to download your episodes or import them to another service, we’ve
created a new RSS feed which contains all your episodes: http://your-domain-here.podcastspot.com/episodes/rss/all
We hope to avoid disruption to your audience as much as possible, but we need your help to do that.
Here’s how:
- Let us know right away if you want to be migrated to Libsyn.
- If you have moved to another host or service, please email us the website location and location of your new RSS feed so that we can setup the appropriate redirects on our end.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
